Marisella Andrews

Marisella (Sella) Andrews is passionate about healthcare and service. During her seven years in the United States Army, she flourished in an environment that combined structure with promoting individual advancement. “There was a sense of purpose,” recalls Sella, who deployed to Afghanistan as a combat medic. “It was exactly what I wanted from the military: to help people in a capacity that was bigger than myself.”

After attending Wesleyan University, Sella wanted to continue her career in health and service. Questrom’s Health Sector MBA provided exactly the type of opportunity she was seeking.

“I was missing healthcare and finding a new love of business and the HSM program was the perfect bridge. My goal is to use the skills I’m gaining through the MBA program to promote efficiency, access, and equity in the healthcare space,” says Sella, who is excited for a career in hospital administration.

In the meantime, she is putting her newly acquired business skills into action in a summer internship with Massachusetts General Hospital. “I’ll be an administrative intern in the Department of Surgery,” she says, “learning about budgeting, negotiations, leveraging corporate strategy, creating partnerships with community hospitals, and more.”

When she returns to class in the fall, Sella is eager to share her hands-on experience in discussions and projects. “I’m very excited for second-year electives in HSM,” she says. “I really want to dive into learning more about the health sector: bio pharma, the way insurance works, Medicare and Medicaid and other topics.”

Sella also looks forward to the continued camaraderie with her fellow students. “I thought business school would be cutthroat, but as soon as I was admitted, students were reaching out to me for a Zoom hangout,” she says. “The relationship building and the amount of support from my classmates and faculty are noteworthy. The team building has been the best part of Questrom for me. The school teaches you how to work in a team where you can simultaneously be yourself and strengthen your individual professional skills.”
