Funding Opportunity: DHS S&T Releases NOFO for Terrorism and Targeted Violence Research
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate released the attached Terrorism and Targeted Violence Research and Evaluation Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) for research applicants interested in domestic terrorism, targeted violence, radicalization, and prevention methodologies. Please note – This NOFO is separate from the annual Targeted Violence and Terrorism Prevention (TVTP) Grant Program competed by DHS earlier this year.
Through this competition, DHS is seeking evidence-based, fundamental research to understand the behaviors associated with radicalization and effective intervention methods for federal, state, local and community practitioners to employ. Predictive behavior, historical counterterrorism, and state-sponsored terrorism studies will not be considered. The four priority areas of the NOFO, outlined by DHS, along with their corresponding award amounts are as follows:
- Priority (i): Trends and Causes in Terrorism – $3,513,943
- Priority (ii): Evidence-Based Prevention and Intervention Practices – $2,000,000
- Priority (iii): Application of Computational Social Science Methods for Radicalization and Violence Studies – $2,000,000
- Priority (iv): Understanding Online Intervention Programs – $2,000,000
The award period of performance will initially be for two years, with consideration for extensions on a case-by-case basis. Applications must be submitted through www.grants.gov by 5:00 PM ET by Friday June 23, 2023.
The full NOFO, with more information on eligibility, submission information, and contact information is available on www.grants.gov under the solicitation number “DHS-ST-23-108-FR01” or by following the link here.
