Changes to Medical Clearance Requirements for Research

BU’s requirements for medical clearance for research are changing. Beginning immediately, researchers working on a biosafety level 1 (BSL-1) protocol who do not work with animals no longer require medical clearance from the Research Occupational Health Program (ROHP). Researchers working on BSL-1 protocols who do work with animals (excluding fish and amphibians) or on protocols that are BSL-2 or above still require medical clearance as described on the ROHP website.

Should a researcher’s work change, either to include animals or to begin work in a BSL-2 lab, they should submit a new Job Risk Assessment and Health Questionnaire to ROHP. Contact rohp@bu.edu with any questions.
