Animal Training Sessions
Vet Services offers regular training on animal care and use, including rodent handling, restraint, and various techniques. Please email vetservices@bu.edu with any questions or to enroll in an upcoming training. Space is limited to three (3) participants per session. Enrollment prior to the training day is required to attend.
Session 1
Every Wednesday, 1:30-2:30
This introductory session is a prerequisite for all other trainings. This training covers:
- Animal handling
- Animal restraint
- Euthanasia
- Mouse health
Session 2A
1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month, 1:30-2:30
Participants must have completed Session 1 prior to attending this session. This training covers:
- Subcutaneous (SQ) injections
- Intraperitoneal (IP) injections
Session 2B
Every Thursday, 1:30-2:30
Participants must have completed Session 1 prior to attending this session. This training covers:
- Tail vein injections/collection
Session 2C
2nd and 4th Tuesday of the month, 1:30-2:30
Participants must have completed Session 1 prior to attending this session. This training covers:
- Anesthesia
- Retro-orbital work
Session 2D
Scheduled as needed
Participants must have completed Session 1 prior to attending this session. This training covers:
- Facial bleeds
- Caliper work
- Tail nicks for glucometer
- Clipper maintenance
- Oral Gavage
