Research security is a priority at Boston University. The University monitors national security concerns surrounding research, including those involving intellectual property, sensitive data, export-controlled information, and other risks. We strongly encourage our research community to educate themselves on their responsibilities and to take steps to safeguard the integrity of their research using the guidance provided below.
Boston University now requires that all “Covered Individuals” on Department of Energy (DOE) projects, active or to be proposed as of May 1, 2025, complete CITI Research Security Training (Combined) prior to May 1, 2025. If the training deadline is not met, DOE researchers will not be able to submit DOE proposals as of May 1, 2025. For all other Researchers who engage in or propose to engage in sponsored research at BU, all Covered Individuals must complete the CITI Research Security (Combined) Training by June 30, 2025. Those who do not meet the training deadline will not be allowed to submit new proposals.
