Melinda Shockley

Executive Director, Faculty Entrepreneurship

Dr. Shockley joined BU in 2025 to work with faculty entrepreneurs to build companies that address important societal problems in healthcare and technology. She oversees entrepreneurship resources and the Business Innovation Center.

Dr. Shockley is an experienced scientist, entrepreneur and executive. Prior to joining BU, she co-founded and led two biotechnology companies, and she brings over 20 years of experience successfully leading company formation, growth strategy, business development, and operations for early-stage and start-up companies with both product and platform assets. Earlier, Dr. Shockley was Senior Director of Business Development at Medarex, Inc. and then Bristol Myers Squibb, where she was instrumental in building and advancing its immunotherapy pipeline, including several blockbuster first-in-class biologics used to treat cancer.

She holds a Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from the University of California, San Francisco, an Executive MBA from Boston University, and a B.A. in Biology from West Virginia University.
