UCLA – 54th Mester

This year, I am the editor-in-chief of Mester, the graduate-run journal of the Department of Spanish and Portuguese at UCLA. Mester publishes academic articles, interviews, and book reviews on Iberian, Latin American, Brazilian, Luso-African, and Chicanx literature, culture, and linguistics.

Mester seeks articles from transdisciplinary and multimedia perspectives examining the historical and contemporary tensions in Latin American cities. We are interested in investigating violence and class disputes in Latin American metropolises and urban settings. Additionally, we welcome submissions for the Special Supplement dedicated to the narratives portraying gender tensions in Latin America.

The deadline for submissions is January 12th, 2025, and articles may be written in English, Spanish, or Portuguese. All manuscripts will undergo a blind peer review by our editorial board.

We kindly ask you to share this e-mail and the attached flyer with graduate students and professors of your department. Here is the link for submission: https://escholarship.org/uc/mester/call

Thank you!

Best wishes,
Ícaro Carvalho
