
Graduate Student in French
From the greater Richmond area of Virginia, Alex Earls is a graduate student in the Romance Studies department at Boston University. They are currently focused on contemporary literature in the Indian Ocean and the relationship it has with the politics of the French and Francophone politics of the region. In particular, they are focused on how French nationalism presents itself in literature and media in the French departments of Mayotte and La Reunion.
Before attending Boston University, Alex spent a year as an English language teaching assistant at a lycée on La Reunion where many of their research interests were cemented. They received their undergraduate degree in Government and in French and Francophone Studies in May of 2023 from William and Mary.
