Boston is a unique and amazing city that offers a wide range of cultural, historical, and academic opportunities for Boston University’s students, faculty, employees, and visitors. However, being in a big city with an open campus, we must address issues of crime, crime prevention, and personal safety directly. Ensuring the safety of our Boston University community is our paramount concern, and I want to assure our community that we prioritize safety without compromise as we strive for transparency and inclusivity.
I became Boston University’s first female chief of police in May 2017, following a 33-year career with the Boston Police Department. My commitment has always been to prioritize student safety at Boston University and the well-being of those who work, teach, and visit our campus. I’m proud to announce that Boston University has taken a significant step to further emphasize our commitment to safety, security, and preparedness. The University has established a new department that encompasses all safety and preparedness issues at BU, and I have the privilege of leading it as the Vice President for Safety, Security & Preparedness. This move underscores the University’s commitment to the well-being of every member of our community and ensures that we will continue to improve on that mission.
As the Vice President for Safety, Security & Preparedness at Boston University, I oversee the departments of Emergency Management, Residential Safety, Police, and Public Safety. I confirm collaboration and communication with other key providers to provide the most secure and supportive environment possible for our community. I will continue to advocate for student safety and well-being, reflecting our University’s commitment to protecting our students throughout their educational journeys.
I hope you find the information on this website helpful. Please feel free to contact my office with any feedback or questions about safety at Boston University. I look forward to working with you all to strengthen the safety and security of our diverse community.
