Degree Requirements
This accelerated, CAPTE-accredited program will prepare you to become licensed as a physical therapist in six years rather than the usual seven. Entering as a first-year student, you will complete three years of pre-professional study followed by a three-year professional curriculum. After completing all studies and clinical training, you will be eligible to take the National Physical Therapy Examination.
Credit requirements
A minimum of 128 semester credits are required for the Bachelor of Science in Health Studies. The Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree requires completion of 97 credits in the professional curriculum.
Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA)
To continue into the physical therapy program, you must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 by the end of the spring semester of sophomore year and the end of the spring semester of junior year, including summer courses. A professional GPA of 3.0 is also required for the Doctor of Physical Therapy degree.
Coursework
The curriculum includes a strong foundation in the basic sciences plus applied scientific knowledge in health, health care, and evidence-based professional practice. It also includes coursework that will help you develop your ability to think critically, solve problems, and communicate effectively.
The following are prerequisite courses in which a minimum grade of C– must be achieved: CAS BI 105; CAS BI 210; CAS BI 211; CAS CH 171; CAS CH 172; CAS MA 121; CAS PY 105 and CAS PY 106 or CAS PY 104; CAS MA 113, 115, 213; SAR HS 342; and SAR HP 412. Up to 8 credits of pre-approved prerequisite courses may be taken outside of Boston University.
Clinical experience
Thirty-six weeks of full-time supervised clinical experience are required prior to graduation. BU has over 700 affiliated physical therapy sites nationwide. Note: Clinical costs are associated with this program. Please refer to the BS/DPT Academic Policy and Procedures Manual.

Technical Standards
