Julie Starr Honored by American Physical Therapy Association (APTA)

11-3236-SARFACULTY-0048Clinical Associate Professor of Physical Therapy & Athletic Training Julie Starr received The Linda Crane Memorial Lecture Award from the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA). Starr was presented with the award at the Association’s 2016 Combined Sections Meeting held in Anaheim, California on February 7. This honor recognizes an APTA member who has demonstrated excellence in research and/or clinical or academic practice.

The purpose of this award is to acknowledge an individual who has made outstanding and enduring contributions to the practice of physical therapy as exemplified in the professional career of Dr. Linda Crane. Crane was a dedicated member of the physical therapy profession since 1970 and was one of the first three APTA board certified clinical specialists in cardiopulmonary physical therapy. She is credited with helping to create a significant part of the Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Section’s history.

Starr’s scholarly interests include acute care physical therapy, cardiovascular and pulmonary care, especially cardiac surgical outcomes, chronic lung disease treatment, and the epidemiology of world wide lung diseases.

She has previously been honored for teaching excellence by Boston University and has served as a Delegate at Large for the Massachusetts Chapter of the APTA.
