New Partnership Between Sargent and Middlesex Jail & House of Correction

We are pleased to announce a new partnership between Sargent College Health & Rehabilitation Sciences and the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction to support the needs of older adults during periods of incarceration. Home to the only older adult unit in the country, the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction, in collaboration with Sargent College, will focus on creating a more accessible, safer unit for older adults who are presently incarcerated, as well as developing programming that supports participation in meaningful activity. Additionally, this partnership includes plans for developing clinical education opportunities, beginning with exploring fieldwork placements at the Middlesex Jail & House of Correction for Sargent Entry-Level Doctor of Occupational Therapy students. The Middlesex Jail & House of Correction is accredited by the American Correctional Association and the National Commission on Correctional Health Care.

This interdisciplinary partnership was spearheaded by Occupational Therapy faculty Anne Escher, OT, OTD, OTR and Jennifer Kaldenberg, OT, DrPH, MSA, OTR, SCLV, FAOTA, Clinical Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy Laura Driscoll, PT, DPT, GCS, and Senior Director of Clinical Education Administration Jennifer Keenan
