Scholarly, Research, and/or Practice Interests

  • Cclinical practice with adolescents and adults in mental health settings and with adults and geriatric populations in acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, adult day health care and outpatient hand therapy; currently the supervisor of the OT department at the VA Long Beach, where she has been employed since 2002. Karen became a Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt (CLSSBB) and leads VA teams in value stream analysis and Lean process improvement events.
  • Karen is currently conducting research as the co-investigator for the comprehensive program evaluation of the VA Everyday Matters workshop. She has published in the textbook Occupational Therapy Essentials for Clinical Competence, 3rd edition (2016).
