Innovation in Teaching and Learning Grant

Deadline: March 18

Purpose

This grant is part of Sargent College’s Research & Digital Learning and Innovation initiative. The goal of this award is to promote innovation and excellence in course instruction at Sargent College. Faculty engaged in teaching undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral courses are encouraged to submit proposals to enhance these classes. New course development may also be appropriate for this mechanism; but this requires a letter of support co-signed by the relevant Program Director and Department Chair.  This letter should address the suitability of the proposed new course to program curricular goals and design, as well as an assessment of any new staffing needs entailed by implementation of the proposed course.

Funding

The Innovation in Teaching and Learning Grant awards up to $8,000 or one month of summer salary.

Eligibility

Lecturers, clinical faculty, and tenured or tenure-track faculty in any department at Sargent College are eligible for this grant.

Application Requirements

    1. Project title (or proposed new course title)
    2. A project proposal, not to exceed 2 single-spaced pages in 12-point font with 1-inch margins. This page limit includes Figures and Tables and excludes references. The proposal should include the following:
      • Course Innovation: Describe the proposed course innovation or new course and provide a rationale for it
      • Type/Level: Indicate what type of course this is or will be and at what level (e.g., undergraduate or graduate course, seminar, clinical internship or externship, group mentoring, service delivery experience)
      • College Mission Advancement: Briefly describe how the proposed teaching innovation will advance Sargent College’s educational mission
      • Impact: Describe the potential impact of the innovation or new course on students, the curriculum, and the program
      • Budget:  Applicants may request one month of summer salary OR a maximum amount of $8,000. If requesting one month of summer salary, no budget justification is required. If requesting funds up to $8,000, acceptable expenses include items such as a portion of one month of summer salary (proportional to the $8,000 limit; i.e., 0.5 month salary = $4,000), purchase of equipment, supplies, subscriptions to software, and/or personnel to assist in content development. For each line item, please provide a brief justification.
      • Support Letter: If the project involves new course development, include a brief letter of support from the program director and department chair as described above.

        Expected Product/Outcomes
