Adapted from Dinner at the Zoo
Yield: Makes about 2.5 cups dip
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt
- 5 tablespoons of margarine/plant-based butter
- 2 ounces of cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup rolled oats
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup + 2 tbsp holiday sprinkles
Note: The original recipe included all-purpose flour instead of oat flour. However, the recipe was modified to include oat flour for nutritional benefits.
Directions
- Place rolled oats in a blender or food processor. Blend for approximately 15 seconds, until fine and powdery. Avoid over blending or the flour will become clumpy.
- Place the butter, cream cheese, and sugar in a medium bowl. Using a whisk or mixer, beat the mixture until light and fluffy.
- Add the blended oats, reserving 2 tbsp, and vanilla extract. Beat for another minute.
- Add the yogurt, 1/4 cup at a time. Mix until combined.
- Stir in 1/3 cup of sprinkles. Use the remaining 2 tbsp of sprinkles to decorate the top of the dip.
- Serve immediately with fruit, graham crackers, and other dippers.

What We Liked
- We enjoyed the creamy texture of the dip.
- Given that most dessert recipes require baking, the students who live in dorms appreciated how this recipe does not require the use of heat.
- We appreciated the versatility of this dip, given that it can be easily paired with different foods such as graham crackers, pretzels, or dippable fruits due to its sweet and creamy taste.
Suggestions
- We suggest lowering the amount of powdered sugar included in this recipe, according to your preference, because the taste of the dip, though still wonderful, was quite sweet.
- It is important to blend the oat flour until evenly ground, which may take some time and is essential to ensure the texture of the dip is smooth.
- It is also recommended to gradually add the flour to the mixture, while the beater is on to ensure that the flour in the mixture will be evenly distributed.
Nutritional Value
- This recipe includes ground oats instead of all-purpose flour. Oats were used as a replacement due to how they are rich in fiber, vitamins, protein, and minerals. Oats contain soluble fiber, which, in addition to supporting digestion, can help lower cholesterol.
- Oats are also a great source of whole grains and carbohydrates. Carbohydrates provide quick energy. Therefore, this dip is both delicious and energizing. Whole grains include more fiber than refined grains. Including more fiber in your diet can be very beneficial due to how it supports a healthy digestive tract and keeps us satiated for longer.
- Greek yogurt which is found in this dip is a great source of protein that provides long-lasting energy.
