Summer Work-Study Awards

Student Employment will open Summer 2024 Work-Study award applications on March 15th.

The priority deadline is April 19th, 2024. Submissions after this date will considered on a case-by-case basis until the end of the semester or funding is exhausted, whichever comes first.

Response time is still being determined due to delays in the Department of Education’s 2024-2025 FAFSA release to the University Student Employment. We will work closely with Financial Assistance to notify applicants once the reviews are complete.

Once Financial Assistance has received all the necessary information to determine an applicant’s eligibility, an email notification with their results will be sent.

UPDATE 4/30/2024

The Summer Work-Study Application is currently closed. Financial Assistance is currently working through applications submitted up to the priority deadline. If you have questions regarding Summer Work-Study, please use this form, at the bottom of the application page, to submit your inquiry.

Summer FICA Policy

Students employed at Boston University during the summer and not enrolled/taking classes are subject to FICA withholdings.

Summer 2024: The first summer payment for weekly-salaried students is May 3rd and the first summer payment for hourly paid students is May 31st.  FICA will be withheld according to above criteria.

Students who are eligible to receive a FICA rebate must not work more than 39 hours per week.  Working more than 39 hours per week on a regular basis (more than 3 weeks) will invalidate a student’s eligibility to receive a FICA rebate.

For more information about FICA withholdings, click here.
