Who is this test best for?
Men whose cancer may have metastasized to the lungs.
What to Expect
A doctor may order a chest x-ray if metastases in the lungs are suspected (about 10% of prostate metastases occur in the lungs). X-rays use electromagnetic radiation to create an image of solid internal structures like bone. X-rays expose the patient to a minor amount of radiation. Doctors limit the use of x-ray to a safe level for the patient.
