What is BASICS?

BASICS is a confidential and non-judgmental program where students can talk with a staff member about their alcohol or other drug use, receive personalized feedback, and discuss strategies to help them achieve their goals.

Who is BASICS for?

We provide BASICS to students who had a substance-related experience at BU that resulted in administrator interaction or a hospital transport. Students sometimes receive a University sanction or judicial letter that requires them to complete BASICS. Our appointments are free and confidential.

Students who would like to speak with a counselor about their alcohol, cannabis or other drug use not due to a transport or sanction can make an appointment with Behavioral Medicine.
