Research Interests:

Ms. Kelly has a longstanding interest in the epidemiologic study of rare, drug-induced disease. She has been involved in case-control studies investigating the etiology of agranulocytosis, aplastic anemia, and thrombocytopenia purpura; Stevens-Johnson syndrome and toxic epidermal necrosis; and anaphylaxis. A particular interest is in the area of analgesic-induced illness, including gastrointestinal bleeding and end-stage renal disease.

From 1998 through 2008, Ms. Kelly’s research efforts were focused on a nationwide, random digit dial telephone survey of medication use. Since then, she has been involved in a study of a possible protective role against renal calculi of a colonic bacterium, Oxalobacter formigenes, and a study of neurocognitive and psychosocial outcomes in children with hemifacial microsomia. Her current activities include participation in several studies of acetaminophen use in the U.S. adult population, a study to determine whether subjects can be recruited through a physicians’ social network, and a postmarketing surveillance study for a newly approved blood product.
