Ya-Ching’s research interests include economic sociology, morality, culture, and health and healthcare. She received her B.A. in the Interdisciplinary Program of Humanities and Social Sciences from National Tsing Hua University, and her M.A. in Sociology from National Taiwan University.
She is currently conducting dissertation research on pediatric palliative care. Her research hopes to understand how medical professionals, parents, and policymakers ascribe meanings to children’s life and death, and how these perceptions inform decisions about the involvement of pediatric palliative care, coordination of care provisions, and access to care services.
Her previous research investigated the production and distribution of homemade cloth masks amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Her master’s thesis was about Taiwanese pigeon racing, encompassing both the races and illegal gambling on them, with a particular focus on how social relations, morality, and gender affect the players’ strategies and practices under the risk of economic loss.
