Alumnus Named Provost at Fitchburg State University.
Alberto Cardelle (’89) has been named provost and vice president for academic affairs at Fitchburg State University in Massachusetts.
Cardelle is currently dean of the College of Health Sciences at East Stroudsburg University (ESU) in Pennsylvania. He is also co-founder and co-director of ESU’s Institute of Public Health Research & Innovation, which brings together researchers to address community health needs and develop innovative interventions and prevention initiatives.
Cardelle came to ESU in 1999 as an assistant professor of public health, and moved into administration 12 years ago. He says his public health background prepared him well.
“Understanding healthcare policy and healthcare systems really is very apropos for understanding the systems in higher education, and understanding the challenges that higher education now faces,” he says.
Cardelle holds a master’s in public health from the School of Public Health and a doctorate in international studies concentrating in comparative health policy from the University of Miami.
He will begin his new role at Fitchburg State University in July.
