SPH Launches Alumni Leadership Council.

The School of Public Health Alumni Leadership Council held their inaugural meeting on May 9.

As SPH celebrates its 40th anniversary, the Development and Alumni Relations Office has established the council of alumni “to be stewards and ambassadors for the School,” says Emily Bajcsi (’03), the council chair.

Bajcsi says the council members hit the ground running at the first meeting. “Folks came to the meeting ready with great ideas,” she says. “There was a lot of enthusiasm for the purpose and the goals of the council, and for being able to support SPH in this way.”

SPH alumni play an integral part in the life of the School by mentoring students, hosting practicum, serving on panels, hiring graduates, and supporting scholarships and the Investment in the Future of Public Health Fund.

The Alumni Leadership Council will continue that work, supporting and giving to SPH; engaging alumni with the School’s priorities; fostering a sense of community among alumni, students, faculty, and staff; serving as ambassadors on behalf of the School and the Dean; speaking at alumni events; and using social media to spread the message on giving, events, and School news.

“SPH has an amazing alumni community,” Bajcsi says. “I am thrilled that the School has convened this talented and engaged group of alums who are excited to help that sense of community grow. We look forward to marshalling the energy and ideas that alumni have to promote the School and think of additional ways to bring alumni together in support of SPH.”

The council includes alumni of all School departments, various industry sectors, and geographic regions—including one member in Liberia—and will meet three times a year in Boston.
