Dear Colleagues,

It is always bittersweet when a cherished colleague and leader in our community moves on from the school. Today, it falls on me to announce that Professor Josée Dupuis, Chair of the Department of Biostatistics, has told me she will be stepping down in June from her role as Department Chair. Professor Dupuis has decided that she would like to be closer to her family in Canada at this time.

Professor Dupuis will be missed. During her time at SPH, Professor Dupuis has made significant contributions to the life of our school and to the field of biostatistics. She has deep experience with the development and application of methods for genome-wide association studies. She specializes in genetic meta-analysis, rare variant analysis, and gene by environment interaction investigation. Her work has led her to develop novel statistical approaches to analyzing genetic data collected on large families. She is also a collaborator on the Framingham Heart Study. In this role, she has worked on projects to identify genes that help shape diabetes-related traits, atrial fibrillation, and pulmonary function traits. In her role as Department Chair, she has been a voice of wisdom and good sense as our school has navigated recent years, has grown the department, nurtured many junior scholars, and helped launch the department on a trajectory of excellence in scholarship and teaching that will be felt for years to come.

On a personal note, I have enjoyed working with Professor Dupuis tremendously. I will miss her as a colleague, friend, and valued part of our school’s leadership team. Professor Dupuis has graciously agreed to stay on as Chair until June 1, after which time the role will be filled by an interim Chair; we will, in the spring, launch an international external search for Professor Dupuis’s replacement.

Meanwhile, I would like to extend my congratulations to Professor Dupuis on this exciting move for her and her family. We wish her all the best on her journey. There will be many opportunities as we get closer to June to celebrate her contributions to our school. Until then, please join me in wishing her well on this new chapter.

Warmly,

Sandro
