We are pleased to offer a grant writing workshop for SPH faculty members interested in developing a new application for external funding. The workshop is designed so that by the end of the 10-session program, each participant will have completed all scientific sections of the proposal.

Grant writing skills are taught through a combination of lectures, feedback on the faculty member’s proposal, and a mock study section. The workshop will generally follow NIH grant proposal guidelines for R-series grants but faculty planning to apply to other mechanisms (eg K01, foundations) are also welcome to apply.

Faculty who are interested in learning more about this workshop are invited to attend an Information Zoom Session on March 18 from 1-2 pm. A draft of the schedule for the workshop will be provided at that time.

After the information session, faculty interested in participating will be asked to complete a brief application that a) indicates their grant writing experience, b) provides a brief description of their proposal, and c) confirms their commitment to the program. Since peer feedback and support are core elements of the program, participants are expected to commit to attending sessions, meeting deadlines, and completing the program.

The workshop will run primarily between May and July. The ten 2-hour sessions will likely be held on Tuesday or Thursday afternoons, though the specific days/times will be determined based upon the preferences of workshop participants. A pre-workshop session will be held during the week of April 8 (based on participant availability) to discuss proposal ideas and to help formulate research questions and a specific aims draft so that all participants begin the actual workshop ready to move forward with revising their specific aims.

To register for the information session, please reach out directly to Professor Bernard (Bernie) Harlow (harlow@bu.edu).
