Dear Colleagues,

As we look ahead to the upcoming academic year, we are making a few space moves that aim to create an ever better space for our students. This has involved acquiring some more space in Crosstown on the fourth floor, where our Development, Communications, and Finance teams are moving to create space for some within-Talbot movement that will eventually result in us having 1 East serve as a fully dedicated student space, allowing opportunities for student groups to gather throughout the year.

Part of the overall project also involves a renovation of the front entryway to the Talbot Building, aiming to create more casual space for gatherings of students, staff, and faculty alike. This project will be starting next week.

Generally, the scope of the renovation project will include relocating the reception area and installing new hardwood flooring. The lobby will include new tables, chairs, and benches, which will provide new functional space for our students and our whole community. The renovations are scheduled to be completed before students arrive in August.

We are making every effort to ensure that the project will be as minimally disruptive as possible. The work will be conducted between 6am-2pm, with loud work occurring in the early morning between 6-9am to minimize disruption. Floor-to-ceiling partition walls will completely enclose the construction area. Since the front entrance will not be useable during the project, signs will redirect visitors to the 103W entrance, where there will be a temporary reception area. We have, of course, been working with all of the staff who are directly affected to make sure that they have suitable space to relocate to during this period.

Overall, I think this project will greatly improve the appearance and functionality of the entry area. I appreciate that the construction—as construction always does—will occasion some inconvenience, and thank everyone in advance for their patience as this project gets underway.

Warmly,
Sandro
