(Around BU) Fighting for Reproductive Justice after Roe v. Wade: What to Know, What to Do.
- Starts: 5:00 pm on Thursday, July 7, 2022
- Ends: 6:30 pm on Thursday, July 7, 2022
On June 24, the Supreme Court issued a ruling overturning Roe v. Wade, which reversed nearly 50 years of the constitutional right to abortion. Due to the loss of federal protection for abortion care, 26 state governments are likely or certain to ban abortion in most or all circumstances. Millions of people will lose their right to comprehensive reproductive health care over the next few months.
This Supreme Court ruling leaves us with many questions and looking for information. The impact of this decision will extend far beyond abortion care, and threatens essential human rights.
The Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology invites all staff, students, trainees and faculty to come together as a community and hear from a panel of experts in reproductive health to learn about what this means and what you can do to advocate for reproductive justice.
Planned topics for discussion: Understand how the erosion of abortion rights and Roe v. Wade began long before last week. Discuss the impact of abortion bans on pregnancy-related mortality and infant mortality.
Realize the disproportionate impact of abortion bans on already marginalized populations, including Black people, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, and people with disabilities. Discuss what we as individuals, and our BMC/ BU community can do to help people seeking reproductive health care.
Please note: masks are required. This event will be in person only. Due to the sensitive nature of the discussion, do not take photographs, record it or share the event on social media.
