Postdoctoral Research Associate in Environmental and Molecular Epidemiology
The Department of Environmental Health at the Boston University School of Public Health is seeking applications for fully funded postdoctoral research associates in environmental and molecular epidemiology. Successful candidates will participate in NIH- and DoD-funded epidemiologic research under the mentorship of Dr. Maria Argos, utilizing data sources from US- and international-based cohorts. The general research focus will be on understanding the interplay between environmental exposures and molecular phenotypes and determining their roles in cardiometabolic disease risk and prostate cancer risk and prognosis.
Ideal candidates will have strong statistical and programming skills in R and strong scientific writing skills. Candidates with experience analyzing and managing large-scale “omics” datasets will be strongly preferred.
Please send a cover letter including a statement of research interests and future goals and CV to: Dr. Maria Argos. Application review will begin immediately but will continue until the position is filled.
Postdoctoral research associates will be mentored to pursue independent research careers. The Department of Environmental Health has a structured post-doctoral program with formal mentorship and career development opportunities. This includes support and training in grant preparation and manuscript writing, opportunities to present at national and international conferences, and engagement in the mentorship of students or classroom teaching if of interest to the applicant. This position offers a competitive compensation package (commensurate with experience), a tailored benefits package, and generous paid time off. This is structured as a 12-month position with potential for continuation in future years.
Duties and Responsibilities include:
• Apply advanced statistical skills;
• Collaborate with scientists with different backgrounds;
• Write scientific peer-reviewed manuscripts;
• Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with PI and Co-Is.
Required Skills
• PhD/Doctorate in epidemiology, environmental health, biostatistics, or a closely related field;
• Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines;
• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team;
• Demonstrated publication record;
• Quantitative training with strong computational skills;
• Proficiency in R;
• Experience working with high-dimensional “omics” is desirable but not required;
• Excellent communication and writing skills.

Postdoctoral Position at the NIH
The Genetics, Genomics, Bioinformatics, Platelet Biology National heart, lung and blood institute, Framingham, MA are seeking talented and diverse individuals to work at the Framingham Heart Study within NHLBI.
The FHS, has a wealth of genetic and OMICs data including whole genome sequence data, transcriptomes (microarray and RNA-seq), methylome, lipidome, metabolome, microbiome and proteome. Additionally, the Johnson Lab has led the collection of the largest global samples to date on platelet function, platelet reactivity and platelet RNA-sequencing both within FHS and other cohort samples. Current analyses include focus on multi-OMICs platelet profiling, longitudinal measures, disease prediction and functional molecular studies. Relevant future research project areas for Fellows include the genetics of platelet function, bleeding disorders, pharmacogenetics of anti-platelet therapy, and the integration of multi OMICS data, bioinformatics and machine learning to yield new discoveries.
The Population Sciences Branch (PSB) of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) at the National Institutes of Health invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellow in Dr. Andrew Johnson’s Lab. Dr. Johnson is a tenured NIH Senior Investigator with stable funding, and a research lab based at the historic Framingham Heart Study (FHS). The FHS was started in 1948 with a focus on unlocking the risk factors behind cardiovascular disease. The Johnson Lab is highly focused on understanding platelets and their role in both bleeding and cardiovascular disease, and how we may improve anti-platelet therapeutics. Trainees in the Johnson Lab have gone onto successful careers in industry and academia, and the Lab has >49,000 citations to its work with a current h-index >110.
They collaborate widely with several Domestic and International Consortia in the area of Hematology (platelet count), Hemostasis (coagulation, hemostatic and fibrinolytic factors), and cardiovascular risk (MI, stroke, VTE). We are co-leading genetic projects on platelet counts in ~1.2 million individuals in sample size to generate new target genes controlling platelet biogenesis and decay. They also have a molecular lab focused on translating their population discoveries into functional cellular experiments (iPSC, CRISPR, drug compound screening) at the main NIH campus. Position placement may be available at either Framingham, MA or Bethesda, MD locations.
The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary commensurate with experience and qualifications. The initial appointment will be for a minimum of 2 years, with appointment renewals in 1- year increments. The post-doc must be a US citizen, resident non-US citizen, or nonresident non-US citizen who obtains a valid employment visa.
Applicants must have an M.D. and/or Ph.D. and research experience in 1 or more of the following: Bioinformatics, Genomics/multi-OMICs, Statistical Genetics, Epidemiology, Hematology, Platelet Biology, and/or Molecular/Cellular/ Biology. A proven track record of prior publications is expected.
Applicants should submit a cover letter highlighting key qualifications and research interests, and curriculum vitae with complete bibliography to:
The advertisement will remain open until the positions are filled. PDF versions of documents sent by email are strongly preferred.
