Seminar Addresses Web-Based Addiction Intervention.
BUSPH and BUSM addiction researchers will discuss the use of social media and web-based assessments at “Web Intervention for Returning Veterans with Risky Drinking,” a research seminar taking place Friday, March 23, from 3 to 5 p.m.
Richard Saitz, director of the Clinical Addiction, Research and Education (CARE) Unit at BUSM, will first discuss the state of research for web-based alcohol screening and interventions, citing studies conducted at BU and elsewhere.
A team of researchers from both BUSPH and the VA Boston HealthCare System will then present their findings from a recent Facebook outreach to returning veterans. The team recruited hundreds of participants via a Facebook advertising campaign for a randomized trial of a self-guided web-based intervention for those with hazardous drinking and PTSD symptoms.
The panelists will be introduced by David Rosenbloom, a professor of health policy and management at BUSPH and the founder of Join Together, the innovative online clearinghouse for substance abuse prevention and treatment that was affiliated with BUSPH for 20 years.
The seminar will take place at the VA Boston Healthcare System’s Jamaica Plain Campus, Basement Conference Room A & B, 150 South Huntington Avenue. The seminar is free and open to all faculty, students, and staff at BU and the VA.
