SPH Alumna Assumes Leadership Position at Connecticut Foundation.
Christina Ciociola (MPH’99) has been appointed senior vice president for grant making and strategy for the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven. In that position, she is responsible for grant making strategy development and implementation, as well as community knowledge work of the foundation.
Ciociola has been at the foundation since 2002. As director of knowledge and evaluation since 2008, she has played a central role in the foundation’s community knowledge work and led its efforts to promote local philanthropy. She also led the foundation’s workplace efforts through the Partnership for Economic Opportunity.
“Christina has long been an outstanding member of the Community Foundation staff and has risen steadily through the organization over many years,” said William W. Ginsberg, president and CEO of the foundation, in announcing the appointment. “Christina has led many of the foundation’s new initiatives in recent years. She has a deep understanding of our community and its opportunities and challenges, and knows our local nonprofit sector intimately. She will bring great commitment, understanding, knowledge, and know-how to her new position.”
Ciociola earned her MPH from SPH with a dual concentration in epidemiology and biostatistics. She also holds a BA in psychology from Merrimack College and received her MSW from Boston University School of Social Work with a specialty in gerontology.
The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven awarded more than $24 million in grants and distributions in 2013 from an endowment of approximately $430 million comprising hundreds of individually named funds. In addition to its grant making, the foundation works to improve student achievement, reduce New Haven’s infant mortality rate, promote local philanthropy, and encourage community awareness.
