Michael Botticelli Discusses 21st Century Approach to Drug Policy and Public Health.
Michael Botticelli, director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, used the April 8 Public Health Forum to outline the methods his agency is using to deliver a public health-centered approach in combatting substance use disorder.
In his three years at the agency, Botticelli has worked to reframe the so-called “war on drugs” as a pressing public health issue that should be examined in a medical context, and not the traditional ways of treating addiction as a moral and criminal failing. He discussed these different strategies in his presentation, “The Future of Treating Substance Use Disorders: What Is the Role for Health Care Professionals?”
