Alumna to Head Irish Cancer Registry.

Kerri Clough-Gorr (’06) has been named the new director of National Cancer Registry Ireland (NCRI) and University College Cork’s (UCC) inaugural professor of cancer epidemiology.

Clough-Gorr is currently an assistant professor at the University of Bern, Switzerland, as well as an adjunct assistant professor of geriatrics at the School of Medicine and a visiting scholar at the Massachusetts Veterans Epidemiology Research and Information Center (MAVERIC). Clough-Gorr was previously the scientific director of the National Institute for Cancer Epidemiology and Registration in Switzerland. She has published extensively in both geriatrics and cancer, and has a particular interest in cancer in older people and in the assessment of quality of life.

“I am honored and excited to be joining both NCRI and UCC,” Clough-Gorr says. “The registry has an important role to play in cancer control in Ireland and a strong tradition of first-rate cancer registration. UCC has a proud reputation in academic public health.

“My goal is to integrate my role as director of NCRI and professor at UCC to maximize the potential of cancer registry data collection and cancer epidemiology data use for the benefit of cancer patients Ireland-wide.”

The NCRI is a publicly appointed body, established in 1991, to collect and classify information on all cancer cases in Ireland, monitor trends and outcomes in different cancer types, and promote the use of this information in research and in the planning and management of services.

Clough-Gorr will begin in her new roles in August.
