Expo Connects Students to Real-World Experience.
The School of Public Health’s first internship and practicum expo was a big hit on March 30.
Career Services held the inaugural event to help bridge the gap between the classroom and the field, giving students a chance to find the internship and practicum experiences they can then show prospective employers at the annual career fair.
About 200 students came to the expo, many of them stopping to have a LinkedIn photo taken on the way in.
“We were delighted with the turnout,” says Lauri Rich, director of employer engagement. She says the 30 employers at the expo “represented a wide range of organizations, from local non-profits to large pharmaceutical companies.”
The students and employers made plenty of matches. Some of the organizations had even sent SPH alumni to find interns and practicum students.
One student stopped by the Career Services table near the door, describing her background and interests, and asking for guidance before wading in.
“Actually, there’s someone here,” she was told. “She’s one of our alums, and she’s looking for someone just like you.”
