Matthew Fox 400x241 Matthew Fox (SPH’02,’07) professor of epidemiology and global health, joined the editorial board of the Journal of the International AIDS Society as a deputy editor in May 2018.

Fox is co-director of the Health Economics and Epidemiology Research Office (HE2RO), a collaboration between researchers from BU and South Africa’s University of Witwatersrand. In his work at HE2RO, Fox analyzes treatment data to find solutions to bettering HIV treatment, broadening treatment access, and improving outcomes in South Africa, where more than 3 million people are being treated for HIV.

The World Health Organization has formulated treatment protocols based in part on Fox’s work, and he is the primary investigator or co-investigator on grants from the World Bank, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the National Institutes of Health, and USAID/South Africa. Fox has co-written a book on his data-driven research methods, Applying Quantitative Bias Analysis to Epidemiologic Data.

“I am particularly excited about joining the editorial board at JIAS both because of the quality of the publication and also because of their commitment to supporting work from researchers from resource-limited settings,” Fox says.

Founded in 1988, the International AIDS Society (IAS) is the world’s largest association of HIV professionals, with members from more than 180 countries working on all fronts of the global AIDS response. IAS promotes and invests in HIV advocacy and research on key issue areas through strategic programs, initiatives, campaigns, and its peer-reviewed platform, the Journal of the International AIDS Society.
