Professor Elected to Board of Epidemiology Organization.
Matthew Fox (SPH’02, ’07), professor of epidemiology and global health, has been elected to serve on the board of the Society for Epidemiologic Research (SER) as a member-at-large.
Fox has been a member of SER for more than a decade. As a board member, he plans to foster new ways to expand the reach of the organization, which is the oldest and largest epidemiology society in North America.
“I’m looking forward to increasing the visibility of epidemiologists in a number of ways, including through social media and podcasting,” Fox says. “I’m also very interested in increasing SER’s diversity and inclusivity, and making people feel welcome.”
Fox says SER is unique in its ability to bring together a variety of epidemiologists to focus on the latest developments in the field and discuss important controversies in the field.
“It also plays a major role in supporting continuing education and creating a scientific community for epidemiologists to call home,” he says.
SER sponsors the American Journal of Epidemiology and Epidemiologic Reviews and conducts an annual meeting that features the John C. Cassel Memorial Lecture, Kenneth Rothman Career Accomplishment Award, Tyroler Student Prize Paper, poster sessions, and symposia on a wide range of epidemiologic issues.
Martha Werler, professor and chair of epidemiology, is currently serving as the organization’s 52nd president.
