SPH Rises in U.S. News Rankings.
The School of Public Health ranks as the eighth leading public health school in the country, according to the latest U.S. News & World Report graduate school rankings.
The rankings place SPH at No. 8 among all schools of public health, up from No. 10 in the last round of rankings in 2015. This represents the school’s fourth consecutive rise up the U.S. News rankings, which assess the quality of schools accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health. The new ranking also puts SPH in the top five private schools of public health and in the top 5 percent of the nation’s 183 schools and programs of public health.
“This achievement is the work of many,” says Dean Sandro Galea. “It represents the combined efforts of our faculty, staff, and students, our global alumni network, and the many friends of our school; the guidance of our Dean’s Advisory Board; and the support of the broader BU community, under the leadership of President Brown.
“The rise in the rankings also reflects our growing responsibility, as a leading school of public health, to meet the challenge of innovating on scholarship, education, and catalyzing change that can improve the health of populations ’”
The school’s emerging healthcare management program also made it onto the U.S. News ranking of public health programs, coming in at No. 23 overall. It is the highest-ranked program in New England, tied for fourth in the Northeast region, and the highest-ranked master of public health (MPH) program accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) in the country.
“It means so much to us to be recognized by our peers as one of the best programs in the nation and as the top MPH degree program on the list,” says Michael Stein, chair of the Department of Health Law, Policy & Management, which houses the Health Care Management certificate.
The School of Law’s Health Care Law program, with which many faculty in the School of Public Health’s Center for Law, Ethics, and Human Rights are engaged, once again ranked No. 4 from 2018, consistent with its ranking the previous year.
