Over the past few weeks, we said goodbye to the summery weather that opened the semester and settled into the rhythms of the fall: slightly shorter days, cooler temperatures, and the emerging spectrum of colors typical of a classic New England autumn.

Last week, the School hosted a conversation between BUSPH Board Member John Rosenthal and March for Our Lives leader David Hogg on the importance of voting and the responsibility of public health to promote voter engagement.

In late September, the issue of prison reform was critically discussed during a conversation on “Abolition, Incarceration, and the Public’s Health.” Recent national attention has led to a bipartisan examination of the growing carceral state, forcing policymakers to rethink the issue. Our panelists considered the question of the role public health could play in ending mass incarceration and reforming the US criminal justice system.

This fall also marked a steady return to familiar gatherings, including our first in-person symposium of the year. “Towards Antiracist Academic Institutions: Next Steps” convened experts to share views on how to “create a more inclusive and just environment within our academic institutions.”
