SPH Snapshot: 2024 Fall Semester Roundup
December Graduate Reception
On December 6, the School of Public Health hosted its annual December Graduate Reception to recognize and celebrate the achievements of those graduating at the end of January. Held in the Heibert Lounge, the event was a welcome end to the fall semester and an evening of well-deserved celebration for soon-to-be public health professionals and their family and friends.
Students and guests were welcomed with encouraging words from Dean Sandro Galea and Assistant Dean for Students Mary Murphy-Phillips. Students donned regalia for photos with friends and family. Many will likely return to campus later this spring as all January graduates are invited to participate in the full in-person ceremony in May 2025.
Honoring the Work of David Jones
Colleagues, family, and friends of the late SPH professor David Jones gathered on December 3 to celebrate the posthumous release of his new book, Ripples of Hope in the Mississippi Delta: Charting the Health Equity Policy Agenda.
Fireside Chat with Dr. Arati Prabhakar
Dr. Arati Prabhakar, director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy and assistant to the president for science and technology, sat down with Dean Galea to discuss the state of health in America, the successes of the Biden Cancer Moonshot, and the possibilities ahead.
Health Law Celebration
SPH faculty and colleagues from the School of Law gathered in late October to celebrate more than half a century of health law as a discrete field of academic focus. Scholars from across the nation added their reflections on the history and future of the field and also commemorated the leadership and contributions of George Annas, Wendy Mariner, and Fran Miller.
