2018 Alumni Awards Celebrate the Significant Impact Made by BUSSW and Wheelock Graduates

The BUSSW community will gather on Saturday, September 22 at the Alumni Association Awards to honor graduates and faculty for exemplary commitment to their practice and to their school. Guests and awardees will be joined for the first time by our social work peers from Wheelock College, now the Wheelock College of Education & Human Development at Boston University, six of whom will be recognized as part of the 2018 Wheelock School of Social Work Outstanding Alumni Awards.

The awards ceremony will also be the first for new BUSSW Dean, Jorge Delva. An addictions expert and a leader in social work education, Dean Delva will join Alumni Association President Cate Johnston (SSW ‘12) in delivering opening remarks to guests before the awards presentation begins.

BUSSW

Dennie Butler-Mackay (SSW ‘89), clinical social worker at Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center where she also serves as Co-Director of Racial Justice and Equity Initiatives.

Yaminette Diaz-Linhart (SSW ‘10, SPH ‘11), MSW/MPH dual-degree grad and a health policy research scholar at Brandeis University’s Heller School.

Jeanette L. Morrison (SSW ‘92), regional supervisor at the Connecticut DCF and Alderwoman of New Haven, Connecticut.

Judith Gonyea, professor and Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs, who has served as interim dean at BUSSW and instructor to countless students.

WHEELOCK

Heidi Sue LeBoeuf, (Wheelock Worcester MSW ’15), Wheelock field instructor, counseling and advocacy director at Pathways for Change.

Masill Miranda (Wheelock BSW ’12,  BU MSW ’16), program coordinator for the planning council support committee at Boston Public Health Commission and admitting officer at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

Erica Nazzaro (Wheelock MSW ‘03), adjunct professor, field instructor at Wheelock and program coordinator at The Home for Little Wanderers.

Jess Nieuwenhuizen (Wheelock MSW ‘11), Wheelock field instructor and program director of Transitions at Boston Public Health Commission.

Dr. Wendy Champagnie Williams (Wheelock BSW ’93), Instructor of Social Work at Wheelock (2003-2016) and former Director of Social Work Field Education. Owner of clinical counseling practice and Assistant Professor of Social Work at Bridgewater State University’s MSW program.

Christopher Womack (Wheelock BSW ’04, MSW ’06), ordained minister and leader within the human-youth services community of Boston for over two decades. Founder of nonprofit outreach program, God’s Soldiers Inc.


The Awards reception will be held at the BU Photonics Center in the Colloquium Room (9th floor) from 5pm to 7pm on Saturday, September 22 as part of BU Alumni Weekend.
