Hoarding is a chronic disorder that becomes more prevalent and severe with age. It is one of the most frequently occurring mental health disorders among older adults, yet many clinicians feel unprepared to help clients who hoard. The Bedford Campus at BU School of Social Work (BUSSW) will host a free workshop on how to recognize, evaluate, and treat hoarding disorder in elderly adults.

The workshop, “Hoarding Behaviors in Older Adults: Beyond the DSM,” will be led by Lauren Barretta, BUSSW alum and director of ClearPath, New England’s largest hoarding mitigation service. She will discuss the impact of hoarding behaviors, assessment tools, and effective interventions for social work practitioners.

The event is co-sponsored by BUSSW’s Aging Specialization, developed by Bronwyn Keefe, director of the School’s nationally renowned Center for Aging & Disability Education & Research.

1.5 Massachusetts Social Work continuing education credits pending.

This event is the first in a series highlighting the four BUSSW specializations now available to Off-Campus and Hybrid students. Stay tuned for more information on upcoming events.
