Boston University School of Social Work’s (BUSSW) Field Education department has partnered with Eleos Health to pilot a student-centered AI learning platform that will serve as an alternative learning opportunity for its master of social work students in their field internships. The pilot project will involve approximately 20% of the School’s MSW population across all majors and program formats (on-campus, off-campus and online).

Initiated in response to the rise of telehealth in behavioral health services delivery, and as part of a larger effort to reduce inequities, the pilot project uses the Eleos Health platform’s holistic role play and analysis tools to build students’ practical skills in the nine competencies required by the Council on Social Work Education, the accreditation provider for social work schools in the U.S. It will also provide BUSSW with assessment data on curricula strengths and practice challenges.

The pilot project is led by Denita Johnson, assistant dean for field education at BUSSW, and is funded by BU Digital Learning & Innovation (DL&I).

“The work of Eleos is groundbreaking and requires a visionary perspective to see all of the capabilities this software can bring to our master-level social work program and many other programs university-wide,” said Johnson in a statement. “The team at DL&I and the BUSSW field education team understood the opportunity this vision presented and are thrilled to move forward in partnership with our faculty on implementation.”
