BUSSW Launches New Reproductive Justice Learning Community

The Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) Equity & Inclusion Committee will launch Reproductive Justice & Social Work: A Learning Community this fall to collectively deepen our knowledge about reproductive justice more broadly, as well as abortion access specifically. The School will utilize a multi-media approach to develop social work-specific expertise regarding how racism and sexism impact our past and present reproductive landscape and access to bodily autonomy.

The initiative will feature speakers and trainers from local reproductive health organizations and abortion fund agencies to support our learning. This work will help us act on the information we learn so we, as social workers, can reimagine how people access abortion care and other reproductive health-related services in the United States.

Member of the School’s Equity & Inclusion committee will lead the effort including Greer Hamilton (she/her/hers), a current fourth-year PhD candidate at BUSSW and a board member of the Eastern Massachusetts Abortion (EMA) Fund; Kate Glynn (she/her/hers), an MSW student in the Worcester Hybrid Program majoring in Macro Practice who is also a board member of the Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts; and Prof. Ellen DeVoe, associate dean for Academic Affairs.

The learning community will be open to BUSSW faculty, staff, and students only at this time.
