BUSSW Students Support MA Bail Fund’s Winter Campaign, ‘Home for the Holidays’
Wednesday, December 5, 2018
Students in Dr. Phillipe Copeland’s course, “Ferguson is Everywhere,” are supporting the Massachusetts Bail Fund’s winter campaign, Home for the Holidays: Bailout 2018.
The Home for the Holidays initiative uses donor contributions to pay bail for pre-trial, low-income individuals who don’t have the resources to make bail. These individuals, who are overwhelming people of color, face devastating outcomes such as eviction and job loss. By providing bail assistance, The Massachusetts Bail Fund is working to reduce this inequality.
Local activists will assist the MA Bail Fund by posting bail straight from arraignments at Suffolk County jails and Dorchester District Court every Monday. The Fund will also accept referrals for bail assistance in Suffolk County for the entire month of December.
The Massachusetts Bail Fund is a project of The Criminal Justice Policy Coalition, a registered 501c3. Donations are tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
Home for the Holidays is sponsored by Black Lives Matter – Boston, #DeeperThanWater, Queeri, Violence in Boston, BMEN, Black & Pink, The Charles Hamilton Houston Institute, Prison Policy Initiative, and the Massachusetts Bail Fund.
