Carolyn Chou (she/her), co-executive director of the Asian American Resource Workshop (AARW), will be the featured speaker at this year’s BUSSW commencement ceremony for the Class of 2023. Chou, a queer, mixed-race, Chinese American organizer, living and working in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, leads a group focused on organizing pan-Asian communities around issues of racial, economic, and social justice. AARW strives to build healthy, thriving communities through policy campaigns, building a base of progressive Asian Americans, training young organizers, storytelling, and developing political education content.

Through her work at AARW, Chou has helped build the leadership capacity and organizing skills of Vietnamese American young adults in Dorchester and has supported projects that tell stories about communities that are often invisible. Alongside the young adult organizers, she helped build the Dorchester Not for Sale coalition, which brings together a diverse set of neighborhood residents to fight for good jobs, truly affordable housing, and equitable planning.

The BU School of Social Work 2023 Commencement ceremony will be held Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 3:00 PM at the Walter Brown Arena at BU. Graduates will include students from all MSW programs (Charles River campus, Off-Campus, Worcester Hybrid, and the Online program) and doctoral candidates.

More details on the BUSSW ceremony will be available soon and posted on the BUSSW Commencement webpage.
