Doctoral Student Adrianna Spindle-Jackson Awarded Hariri Graduate Student Fellowship

Adrianna Spindle-Jackson, a second-year doctoral student at Boston University School of Social Work, has been selected by BU’s Hariri Institute for Computing as a Hariri Graduate Student Fellow.
This honor is appointed to outstanding, data-driven PhD students to support their research goals and continued success in their graduate program.
As part of the fellowship, Spindle-Jackson will receive a $5,000 Academic Enhancement Award to help fund research-related activities such as conference registration, procurement of software and supplies, and summer stipends. She will also have opportunities to collaborate with Institute partners and other graduate student fellows in her cohort, particularly through the fellow-led “Did You Know You Could…?”, a monthly seminar series that hosts events on topics related to computing and data science, and provides a venue for learning and networking for a diverse array of researchers at Boston University.
The fellowship appointment will extend through her remaining three years in the PhD program to her expected graduation date of May 2024.
“I’m really grateful to be a part of this new cohort of fellows and am especially excited to work with and learn from doctoral students from a wide range of disciplines,” says Spindle-Jackson, adding that the award, while not directly funding her research, will provide substantial support toward accessing the tools and activities needed to carry it out.
Having previously worked as a family therapist at an emergency shelter for youth providing clinical services to young people and their families, Spindle-Jackson’s research interests center on housing justice.
She is currently a project director and graduate research assistant on numerous projects, with topics ranging from gentrification in Detroit to workforce needs of youth in Boston. Spindle-Jackson is one of two BUSSW doctoral students recently awarded a prestigious Public Policy Summer Fellowship by the Harvard Rappaport Institute.
