Dr. Dan Miller Promoted to Professor at BU School of Social Work

BU School of Social Work is thrilled to announce that Dr. Daniel P. Miller has been promoted to professor. Miller is a dedicated scholar committed to advancing the well-being of children and families through impactful social policy research. He focuses on investigating the relationships between policies and the health, economic, and social welfare of children and their parents.
Throughout his career, Miller has explored critical issues like food insecurity and the effects of nutrition assistance programs like SNAP on families. He is also a leading expert on fatherhood, studying how social factors influence paternal involvement. As the ongoing research director for the Partnership for Social and Economic Mobility at the University of Pennsylvania, he is one of the principal researchers for the Philadelphia Economic Equity Project, a representative panel study of poverty and economic mobility among Philadelphia residents.
Miller’s work has garnered support from esteemed organizations like the William T. Grant Foundation, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, and the U.S. Department of Agriculture. His research has been published in top journals, including the American Journal of Public Health and the Journal of Marriage and Family, and featured in media outlets such as CNN, USA Today and The Wall Street Journal. At BUSSW, Dr. Miller served as associate director for doctoral education from 2019 to 2024 and continues to contribute to the field as member of several professional organizations, including the Society of Social Work and Research, where he was named a Fellow in 2022.
