Boston University School of Social Work alum Jackie Jenkins-Scott (SSW’73) has been named interim president of Roxbury Community College (RCC), Boston Business Journals reports. She steps into the role following the December resignation of former president Valerie Roberson who recently oversaw a college-wide renewable energy project and modernization, propelling RCC to a #2 ranking for most influential community college in the nation.

As former president of Wheelock College – which merged with Boston University in 2018 – Jenkins-Scott is uniquely qualified for her latest leadership position. She served as president and CEO of Roxbury’s Dimock Health Center for nearly two decades before transitioning to Wheelock in 2004, where she was president for twelve years. In her time at Wheelock, she significantly increased the number of first-generation students at the college and helped lead its first international conference on children, youth and families, attracting attendees from more than forty countries.

Jenkins-Scott’s accolades include leadership and lifetime achievement awards from the Greater Boston Chamber of Commerce, the Change Agent Award from Color Magazine, and the Distinguished Alumni Award from Boston University. She was selected as co-chair for Boston’s School Readiness Action Planning Team in 2007 by then-mayor Thomas M. Menino, and also co-chaired former governor Deval Patrick’s Readiness Project, assisting in the development of a ten-year strategic plan for improving education in Massachusetts.

Today, Jenkins-Scott serves as founder and president of the consulting company JJS Advising and is on the board of directors for numerous organizations and agencies, including the Massachusetts Foundation for the Humanities and Public Policy, the John F. Kennedy Library, The Boston Foundation, and Century Bank.

A native of Flint, Michigan, Jenkins-Scott has resided in the Greater Boston area since enrolling in BU School of Social Work’s Master of Social Work (MSW) program in 1971.
