BUSSW Student Jamila Peguero Named 2025 Enlight Fellow

Jamila Peguero (MSW’26), a student at BU School of Social Work (BUSSW), is one of ten students selected for the prestigious 2025 Enlight Fellowship from Innovate@BU. The fellowship offers a unique opportunity for BU students to gain nonprofit experience and build entrepreneurial skills while pursuing social impact work over the summer.
Each Enlight Fellow receives a $10,000 stipend to support a summer internship at a Boston-based nonprofit organization to develop their own social venture. The program brings together a diverse cohort of undergraduate and graduate students from six BU schools who are committed to building a more equitable and innovative future.
Peguero’s strong passion for continuous quality improvement in social service agencies spans nonprofit roles, public sector work, and direct service, as well as a deep commitment to leadership, antiracism, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in social work. Through her professional career as a family social worker, she has firsthand insight into the challenges and opportunities facing communities today. Peguero spearheaded a Family Resource Fair designed to close service gaps and improve information-sharing across agencies. The fair brought together various city departments and organizations, creating a collaborative space where families could access Medicaid enrollment assistance, food pantry information, and mental health services in an engaging, accessible format.
Through the Enlight Fellowship, Jamila will expand her impact by applying business strategies to improve service delivery, foster equitable environments, and support organizations through consulting and leadership roles. As she embarks on this new chapter, the BUSSW community celebrates her drive to create meaningful, measurable change.
