1/23: NY State Youth Justice Institute Taps Prof. Spencer for Her Expertise in Youth Initiated Mentoring
Prof. Renée Spencer from BU School of Social Work will share her expertise on youth-initiated mentoring (YIM) at a virtual event hosted by the New York State Youth Justice Institute. Prof. Spencer will introduce the concept of YIM, which encourages young people to identify adults in their existing social networks to be their mentors in a formal mentoring program. She will cover how programs are currently using YIM, what has been learned from participants, and the programmatic changes needed for the approach to work.
