Prof. Augsberger Selected as 2024 Fellow for The Society for Social Work and Research

The Society for Social Work and Research (SSWR) selected Boston University School of Social Work (BUSSW) faculty member Astraea Augsberger, PhD, as a 2024 SSWR Fellow – a distinguished honor recognizing outstanding service and scholarship in social work research. Her selection acknowledges her commitment to SSWR’s mission of creating a more equitable society and her ongoing contributions to the organization.

Augsberger is an associate professor at BUSSW whose research focuses on ensuring that children, youth and families have a voice in the institutional systems that shape their lives. She is a faculty affiliate at BUSSW’s Center for Innovation in Social Work & Health and BU Initiative on Cities, and director of the BU Clinical & Translational Science Institute’s Community Engagement Program.

Prof. Augsberger’s research has been published in numerous scholarly journals, and her influential articles on participatory research with youth and family engagement in child welfare systems have received awards for top cited article and best quantitative article in the national peer-reviewed publications American Journal of Community Psychology and Families in Society: The Journal of Contemporary Social Services.

She joins a growing number of BUSSW faculty inducted as SSWR fellows, including Daniel P. Miller in 2022 and Linda Sprague Martinez in 2023.

SSWR celebrated Augsberger and the other 2024 Fellows on January 13, 2024, at its annual conference in Washington, DC.
