4/24: Prof. Copeland Shares His Expertise as an Abolitionist at BU Conference on the Future of Borders

The future of local, state, and national borders as extensions of prisons and other carceral institutions will be discussed at a panel featuring Prof. Phillipe Copeland from BU School of Social Work. Prof. Copeland will discuss an abolitionist approach to borders and their impact on displaced people for a panel entitled “No Futures, No Borders,” part of a conference hosted by the BU Center on Forced Displacement. This annual conference features workshops, panels, and lectures from leading experts on forced migration. The organizers are committed to featuring discussions that are provocative and wide-ranging, focused on conversation, and open to imaginative approaches to the topic that do not adhere to the systems currently in place.

Copeland has expertise in antiracist education and research, with a concentration on culture, trauma and violence, and health equity. Other panelists include Prof. Sarah Sherman-Stokes from BU School of Law, Profs. David Glovsky and Ianna Hawkins Owen from BU College of Arts and Science, and Prof. Adam Israel, from Adelphi University.
